US stocks advanced on Friday, October 2, after September payrolls increased by just 29,000, far below the 84,000 forecast, while unemployment rose to 4.2%. Reuters reported that the softer jobs data quieted expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes; CNBC also reported the payroll and unemployment figures.
The G7 said it would release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel after President Trump threatened an export ban, according to the BBC's October 2 reporting. The measure comes amid rising fuel prices and uncertainty over supply.

The BBC reported that at least two were involved in safety research; The Wall Street Journal separately reported the dismissals and alleged sharing of confidential information with an AI-safety group.
