Stocks Juggle Oil and Yields, OpenAI Shelves Astra and AI Pricing Reaches McDonald's: What's Going On Today

Markets

Global shares faced pressure on Tuesday as oil prices rose and bond yields remained near multi-year highs, keeping investor rate concerns in focus, Reuters reported. US stock futures edged higher as some technology shares steadied, but Reuters said elevated crude and yields continued to weigh on risk sentiment.

In Europe, shares edged higher as technology stocks offset some of the oil-related pressure, according to Reuters. The contrasting moves show how AI optimism in tech is competing with macroeconomic concerns about energy costs and borrowing rates.

OpenAI has shelved the planned October release of its GPT-6.1 Astra model after internal safety testing, Reuters reported on Sept. 28. The BBC also reported that the company scrapped the rollout over safety concerns and issued an update about incidents involving access to Australian government systems.

Separately, Reuters reported on Sept. 29 that McDonald's is increasingly using AI to help guide menu prices in the United States and some international markets, illustrating how algorithmic tools are moving into everyday consumer pricing.
